Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Thursday said his government has resolved to increase the state's contribution in the country's economy to five per cent from the present four per cent in the next five years.

Addressing the state's main event of the 78th Independence Day after unfurling tricolour at the Lal Parade Ground here, he also announced that starting November 1 this year, four missions will be launched in the state for the development of youth, women, farmers and the poor.

Yadav said efforts have been launched to turn Madhya Pradesh into a sports hub and to bolster tourism through it.

"Bharat has carved its niche in the world under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the last decade, the country has made strides. Under his leadership, the country is developing fast and becoming powerful," he said.

"Bharat is marching ahead to achieve the target of becoming the world's third largest economy. The state has resolved to raise its contribution to the country's economy from four per cent to five per cent in the next five years," he said.

The government is working towards doubling the amount of the state budget in the next five years, he added.

PM Modi was focusing on the youth, women, farmers and the poor for the country's development, Yadav said.

Taking inspiration from the PM, Madhya Pradesh will launch four separate missions for youth, women empowerment, farmers and the poor on November 1, he said.

"Our youth needs to have access to artificial intelligence and new technologies apart from traditional knowledge. For this, we have invested Rs 485 crore. Under it, one college each in 55 districts of the state has been turned into PM College of Excellence," the CM said.

According to him, efforts were being taken to fill the vacant government posts in the state.

"More than 11,000 young people have been given appointment letters for posts in government departments in the last eight months," he said.

He also said that more than 60 industrial units were being set up with an investment of Rs 10,000 crore to open up vistas for over 17,000 employment opportunities.

"The youth have an important role to play in achieving the target of turning Bharat into a developed nation by 2047. Youth are the future of the country," Yadav added.

More than Rs 11,000 crore have been deposited into the bank accounts of 1.29 crore women under the Ladli Behna Yojana in the last eight months.

Women are being given financial assistance (of Rs 1,250 per month) under the scheme to make them economically strong so that they overcome their problems themselves, he said.

Yadav's predecessor Shivraj Singh Chouhan, now Union Agriculture Minister, launched the scheme ahead of the MP assembly polls last year. Many feel that the scheme powered the BJP to retain power in the central state with a brute majority.

Talking about sports, he said the participation of five players from the state in the just-concluded Paris Olympics has made Madhya Pradesh proud. In 2023-24, players from state sports academies have bagged 37 gold, 18 silver and 15 bronze medals - in all 70 medals - in international tournaments, he said.

"Besides, the players have won 690 medals at the national level and brought laurels to the state," he added.

Two-time bronze medallist Olympian Vivek Sagar, an Indian hockey team midfielder, is being given Rs one crore encouragement prize by the state, he said.

Yadav listed the schemes being run for the uplift and welfare of women and poor.

"Budgetary allocation of Rs 66,605 crore has been made for farmers and allied sectors for the current fiscal," the chief minister said.

Yadav said there is 50 lakh hectares of irrigated land in the state and its area will be increased to one crore hectares by 2028-29.

The state has become self-reliant in power availability with 22,823 MW electricity at its disposal, he said, adding that efforts were on to add 3,315 MW energy.

"Already 510 MW has been added under it," he said.

Domestic consumers were getting power round-the-clock while the farmers were getting power for nearly 10 hours daily.

"The (power) transmission loss has come to just 2.61 per cent, which was lowest (among the states) in the country," he said.

The chief minister said that Indore maintained the honour of being the cleanest city in the country for the seventh consecutive time, he said.

"In the cleanliness survey of 2023, MP stood second cleanest state in the country. The state has pocketed seven national cleanliness trophies last year," he added.
