The AAP is trying hard to convince Delhi’s voters that chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is not a lame duck because of the bail restrictions imposed on him on Friday.
Kejriwal is scheduled to address party workers on Sunday during which, sources said, he would “aggressively” counter the BJP and Congress’s allegation that the capital is rudderless.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh told reporters: “The BJP wants to stop the work of Delhi people. It wants to stop free electricity, water, education, health and free bus travel for women. Have they read the court order? Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal does not have any department. All the ministers do their own work and sign their own files. Arvind Kejriwal signs only those files which are sent to the lieutenant governor for approval. The Supreme Court has not stopped him from signing the files which will go to the LG.”
Singh later joined Kejriwal, his wife Sunita and other leaders in visiting the Hanuman temple at Connaught Place. Kejriwal often publicly worships there to mark any important event.
The city and adjoining urban areas in Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have witnessed severe waterlogging for which the AAP and the BJP have blamed each other. The Supreme Court’s stricture against Kejriwal entering his office has strengthened demands of the BJP that Kejriwal relinquish his post.
The AAP has demanded that Union home minister Amit Shah quit, citing the terse remarks of the Supreme Court on the conduct of the CBI in investigating the liquor policy case against the chief minister for which he was arrested in March. The court had called the CBI a “caged parrot”.
“The court has not prevented him from going to the Assembly, so the government may convene a session to drive the point home that Kejriwal is very much the chief minister. He will start campaigning in Haryana on Monday,” an AAP functionary told The
Telegraph.
The AAP has filed nominations for all 90 seats in the state after alliance talks with the Congress fell through. Tuesday is the last day to withdraw nominations.
