The Chhattisgarh government has announced interest-free loans for students from Maoist-affected districts to pursue technical and vocational education, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai said today.
The initiative is part of the Chief Minister’s Higher Education Loan Interest Subsidy Scheme, aimed at economically weaker students across the state.
Students from other districts will be eligible for loans at a minimal 1% interest rate. The scheme applies to 35 technical and vocational courses at diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate levels, with a maximum loan limit of Rs 4 lakhs.
Families with an annual income of less than Rs 2 lakhs will benefit from the scheme.
The government has directed district collectors to run campaigns encouraging students to take advantage of the scheme.
The Department of Technical Education will serve as the nodal agency for implementation, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma said.
This scheme covers courses recognized by competent authorities like AICTE and UGC. Permanent residents of Chhattisgarh enrolled in eligible courses within the state can apply. Income verification is required to ensure eligibility.
