Chhattisgarh: Silk Samgra Yojana launched to boost income of farmers

A five-day training of Silk Department officials has commenced for the implementation of the scheme

Silk Composite Plan-2 is being implemented in Chhattisgarh to promote sericulture and boost the income of the farmers in the state. For effective implementation of this plan, a 5-day training program is being conducted under the joint aegis of the Central Silk Board Bangalore and the Silk Division of Gramodyog Department for technology upgradation of silk officers of 14 districts of the state.

Under this training programme, which commenced on May 1, the officers are being trained to provide assistance and training to the farmers, to facilitate expansion management, silk production and commercial objectives, officials are being trained in the cluster approach, development and management of sick plants, development of basic facilities, infrastructure development, being informed about diseases and pest management, silkworm farming management and precautionary measures.

This training includes district officials and area officers from Jashpur, Surguja, Balrampur, Surajpur, Korba, Raigarh, Janjgir-Champa, Raipur, Mungeli, Bilaspur, Kanker, Bastar, Narayanpur, Kondagaon districts.

In the inaugural session of the training programme, Director Gramodyog Arun Prasad P and Additional Director Dr Rajesh Baghel said in his address that the endeavour of silk development and expansion is being given the top priority to boost the income of the farmers in Chhattisgarh. During the training, farmers are informed about the financial and technical facilities provided by the state government in the interest of farmers.

The training program is being conducted by Dr Siddiqui Ali Ahmed, Program Co-ordinator, Central Silk Board, Bangalore. In the training, Silk Scientists Dr Suresh K, Dr Shashindran Nair, RK Sinha, and Savasachi Khan provided important information on important technical subjects.

Moreover, international trainers Atul Shah and Kiran Chari are also imparting training to the officials for the implementation of the schemes of silk development.

Officials said that under the Silk Composite Plan-2, the work of silk expansion is being done on the private land of farmers in the private sector of the state. In the year 2023-24, farmers are being selected for the implementation of the Silk Composite Plan.

Initial preparations have been started to plant mulberry saplings on about 975 acres of area. Under the scheme, 53 lakh 62 thousand advanced species of mulberry plants are being prepared, which will be planted in July-August.
