Chhattisgarh government has initiated the 'Mukhyamantri Shramik Sian Sahayata Yojana' to provide financial aid to labourers in the state. This ambitious scheme is designed to benefit senior labourers in the state. Under this programme, a lump sum amount of Rs 10,000 is being provided by the government to construction workers, who have reached 60 years of age before retiring from the board's membership, to help them lead a better life.

On the occasion of New Year 2023, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced an increase in the one-time assistance provided to labourers from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 under this scheme. He made this announcement while interacting with the labourers at Chavadi in the state capital Raipur.

Suhaga Bai, a labourer from the village Khaira in Mahasamund district, has expressed her happiness after receiving Rs 20,000 in her account under the aforementioned scheme. In Mahasamund district, a total of 26 labourers are registered under this scheme, and so far, 10 of them have been given a lump sum amount of Rs 20,000 each after their document verification. The documents of the remaining labourers are currently being verified.

Suhaga Bai said that she works as a labourer and came to know about this scheme through her son. She applied for it in the Labor Department and is now grateful for the benefits it provides to elder labourers like herself. "As people age, their bodies become incapable of doing more labour, and it becomes difficult to find work", she said.

She expressed her heartfelt gratitude towards the state government saying that this scheme has become a boon for labourers like her, and the amount of Rs 20,000 in her account will be useful for her and her family.

It is worth mentioning that to avail of the benefits of this scheme, workers will have to apply either online or offline. The membership of registered construction workers under the Chhattisgarh Building and Construction Workers Welfare Board automatically ends at the age of 60 years as per the relevant Act. Therefore, to support the construction workers who are about to retire from the membership of the board and to improve their quality of life, the state government provides a lump sum amount under the Mukhyamantri Shramik Sian Sahayata Yojana.
