In consonance with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision, a new initiative has been launched to provide every student in the country with a unique identification number.
The Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR ID) scheme will be rolled out nationwide in three phases. The first phase will include students from grades 9 to 12, followed by grades 6 to 8 in the second phase, and grades 1 to 5 in the final phase.
The purpose of this initiative is to monitor the overall development and educational progress of students in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 while realising the "One Nation, One Student ID" concept.
The Chhattisgarh government's school education department has directed all district collectors to facilitate the implementation of the APAAR ID scheme.
The APAAR ID will be integrated with DigiLocker, ensuring secure and convenient access to students' digital academic records, including exam results, report cards, and other accomplishments. This ID will also act as a credit score, enhancing opportunities for higher education and employment.
APAAR ID will also be used for multiple use cases e.g., entrance tests conducted by NTA, admissions, scholarship disbursement, transfer of government benefits, issue of awards, recognition etc for students, teachers and other users.
Besides including all academic data of the student, the APAAR will also include information related to the student’s educational journey, achievements, certificates etc. It may also include additional information such as the student’s blood group, height, and weight.
The APAAR ID will be linked to the student’s Aadhaar ID. However, it’s important to note that the APAAR ID does not replace the Aadhaar ID but complements it for educational tracking purposes.
The Ministry of Education has instructed schools to conduct parent-teacher meetings on October 3-4, 2024, to obtain parental consent for generating APAAR IDs for students. Based on the consent forms, school principals will input the necessary details into the UDISE+ portal, which will automatically generate the IDs.
Additionally, special camps will be organised to assist students without Aadhaar cards in obtaining them. The District Education Officer has been designated as the nodal officer, with district mission coordinators and assistant nodal officers overseeing the process at the block, cluster, and school levels.
