The Chhattisgarh government has launched the 'Saur Sujala Yojana' to promote rural development and to assist the farmers in remote areas across the state with solar pumps at concessional rate for better crop growing at reduced expenditure.
The majority of the North Bastar Kanker district's areas are remote and inaccessible, as well as highly sensitive areas where supply of electricity and easy access is not possible.
Shri Lalit Dehari, a resident of the village Bansla in the Bhanupratappur development block of the Kanker district, said that the installation of solar pumps has improved his financial condition, and the scheme has proven to be a boon for him.
With the installation of solar pumps, he is able to irrigate his crops of vegetables, chilies, tomatoes, lady finger, corn, etc. through drip irrigation, which has earned him a profit of approximately Rs 2 lakh.
It is worth mentioning that under Saur Sujala Yojana, 3 horsepower solar irrigation pumps are being provided to farmers belonging to SC and ST categories for Rs 10,000, Other Backward Class category for Rs 15,000, and for the general category Rs 21,000 for irrigating their fields.
