Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel dedicated several developmental works worth Rs. 132.42 crore to the people of Raipur on Saturday. Baghel unveiled the grand statue of Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh at the historic Jai Stambh Chowk in Raipur. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for underground cabling and electrification work worth Rs. 102 crore for Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Ltd (CSPDCL).
During the event, the Chief Minister highlighted that in the 1857 revolt, places like Delhi, Jhansi, and Awadh were rebellion centres. Chhattisgarh was equally active in this revolt. Despite being a zamindar, Veernarayan Singh ji defied the British orders, leading to his capture and subsequent hanging on December 10 at Jaistambh Chowk, marking his valorous stand against British rule.
His body remained on the gallows for days. His descendants fled, living in hiding and enduring hardships. Eventually, their genealogy was established, with the state government recognising their true lineage. Such martyrs' sacrifices led to the country's freedom.
Baghel shared that the state government has installed a 15-foot statue of Shaheed Vir Narayan Singh. He praised the district administration for their excellent execution of various projects. He inaugurated the 'Rajak Gudi', an Urban Industrial Park (UIP) and laid the foundation stone for various renovation works for parks and lakes. He also inaugurated the 36 community halls for various communities that were approved during the Bhent-Mulakat Abhiyan program.
Deputy Chief Minister T S Singh Deo addressed the gathering, highlighting the homeland's brave heroes who sacrificed their lives for the people. Rajendra Singh Dewan, Shaheed Virnarayan Singh's seventh-generation descendant, shared Sonakhan's history and the brave tale through poetry.
