Chhattisgarh: CM Bhupesh Baghel extends greetings ahead of International Press Freedom Day

Chhattisgarh is the first state where a law has been enacted for the protection of journalists

On the occasion of International Press Freedom Day which falls on May 3, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has extended greetings to media institutions, representatives and journalists.

Addressing the occasion, Baghel stated that "Media is often referred to as the fourth pillar of democracy and International Press Freedom Day is celebrated to strengthen the role of media along with ensuring respect and safety for journalism and journalists. The freedom of the press is also included in the fundamental rights of the Indian constitution under freedom of expression to promote fearless media representation"

Baghel further said that "With the increasing importance of the role of media institutions in the present global era, challenges have also increased for them, but the Chhattisgarh Government is committed to ensuring safety and respect for media representatives and significant initiatives have been implemented for this purpose. Moreover, Chhattisgarh is the first state where a law has been enacted for the protection of journalists."
