Chhattisgarh: 7,500 girls to receive financial aid for marriage under Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana

On the occasion of marriage, the beneficiary bride will get a draft of Rs 21,000 and gifts worth Rs 15,000

On the initiative of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, the amount of aid under Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana has been increased to Rs 50,000.

On the occasion of marriage, an amount of Rs 21,000 will be provided to each of the beneficiaries as bank drafts, along with gifts worth Rs 15,000.

In the current financial year, a target has been set to organize marriage ceremonies for 3000 girls from poor families in the first half and 7500 girls on an annual basis. This target has been set with the noble aim of realizing the dream of many poor families to get their daughters married respectably.

Under Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana, an amount of Rs 8,000 per beneficiary will be spent on wedding arrangements and transport and Rs 6,000 will be spent on makeup and bride-groom attires etc. In addition, gift materials worth Rs 15,000 will also be presented to the married couple.

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel earlier had increased the amount of aid under the scheme from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000 in 2019. And now this amount has been increased to Rs 50,000 in the budget of 2023-24. Compared to 2019, the fixed budget amount for the scheme has also been doubled to Rs 38 crore.

Benefits provided under the scheme

Under this scheme, financial aid is provided for the marriage of daughters from families living below the poverty line or the ones coming from the beneficiary family of Mukhyamantri Khadyann Yojana.

A maximum of two girls of age above 18 years per family will be entitled to avail of this scheme. Widows, orphans, and destitute girls are also covered under the scheme. To avail of this scheme, people can contact the office of the District Women and Child Development Officer / District Program Officer, and at the block level, the Child Development Project Officer or the Integrated Child Development Officer can be contacted. Information regarding the scheme is also available from Anganwadi workers.
