While Mahanta has applied for bail, the other two have filed vakalatnama and handed over the power of attorney to their advocates.

The CBI had on July 7 arrested the three accused under sections 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the Indian Penal Code in an ongoing investigation of triple-train accident near Bahanaga Bazar station in Odisha’s Balasore district on June 2 that claimed 293 lives.

Following their arrest, the CBI had taken the trio on a five-day remand.
