An eight-member team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday raided a medicine shop located on the campus of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, as a part of a probe into the alleged irregularities in the tender process.
“We did not have any information about the raid till late evening on Thursday. The team came early in the morning and raided the pharmacy store. There was no raid on the executive director and medical superintendent’s offices,” a senior member of the AIIMS told The Telegraph.
Sources in the AIIMS said a leading businessman opened its medicine shop after emerging as number one in the tender floated in 2020-21 by the central government.
“There have been allegations that the businessman failed to meet the requisite condition in the tender and there were irregularities in the tender process itself. Besides, irregularities were noticed in giving medicines to patients under various schemes such as the Odisha government’s Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana and the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat Yojana. The CBI made this raid to ascertain the veracity of the allegation,” said sources.
