The CBI this evening pasted a notice outisde the home of P. Chidambaram's asking him to appear before it in he INX Media case within two hours after receiving the notice.
Chidambaram, a former finance and home minister, was not at his Jor Bagh residence, according to the news channel NDTV, at the time CBI officers went there.
The Delhi High Court had denied Chidambaram's plea for an anticipatory bail in the case earlier today, after which the Congress leader was in a huddle with party colleague and with senior advocate Kapil Sibal.
Sibal, along with a team of lawyers, explored the possibility of mentioning the appeal against the order in Supreme Court but failed in their attempt.
Sibal was told by the registrar (judicial) to mention the petition on Wednesday morning in the apex court. Sibal and Chidambaram were seen rushing from one corridor to another to meet officials, including the secretary-general and the CJI's staff, for having word with Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi.
Sibal later said he had been informed by an apex court official to mention the petition on Wednesday at 10.30 am before an appropriate bench.
He said that as Chief Justice Gogoi will be sitting in the Constitution bench for hearing the Ayodhya case, the petition is to be mentioned before the senior-most judge, who is not on the Constitution bench.
Sibal said that in all probability, the senior-most judge would be Justice N.V. Ramana, who is number three in seniority after the CJI and Justice S.A. Bobde. Both the CJI and Justice Bobde are part of the five-judge Constitution bench hearing the Ayodhya case.
