Trinamul Congress member Mahua Moitra on Monday moved the Supreme Court against her expulsion from the Lok Sabha last week following the cash-for-query allegations brought against her by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on the basis of a complaint filed by her estranged partner.

Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha on Friday after the House adopted the report of the ethics committee, which found her guilty of the allegations while conceding that the panel did not have the technical wherewithal and expertise to investigate and unearth any money trail.

However, Moitra has maintained that she did not get a proper hearing in the ethics committee. Nor was she allowed to cross-examine either her estranged partner Jai Anant Dehadrai or businessman Darshan Hiranandani, who is alleged to have showered her with gifts to pose questions in Parliament against the Adani group.

The entire Opposition has backed Moitra both inside and outside the ethics committee. Amroha MP Danish Ali, a member of the ethics committee, was suspended from the BSP on Saturday, a day after Moitra’s expulsion, purportedly because he had picked up the cudgels for her against the wishes of his party.
