Kafeel Khan, the paediatrician who had been jailed over the deaths of children at a Gorakhpur hospital but later cleared of wrongdoing in a government probe, was arrested at Mumbai airport on the charge of making inflammatory statements at Aligarh Muslim University during anti-CAA protests.
Khan, who was arrested on Wednesday night in a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh STF and Mumbai police, had come to the city to take part in anti-CAA protests. He will be taken to Aligarh under transit remand, the STF said in a release in Lucknow.
The charge against Khan is that he had made inflammatory statements on December 12 last year during a protest near Bab-e-Syed gate outside Aligarh Muslim University in front of more than 600 students.
A Mumbai police officer claimed that Khan had also made objectionable comments against Union home minister Amit Shah.
