CPM politburo member Brinda Karat alleged that federal agencies ED, CBI and IT are used as Trishul (trident) by the BJP-led Centre against Opposition-ruled states while the governors are used to push the Centre’s agenda in these states.

Brinda Karat, while addressing the media in Ranchi after attending the CPM state-level meeting on Saturday afternoon, said: “Every single day we are witnessing ED, CBI or IT being used against the Opposition leaders in non-BJPruled states as a Trishul. While the governors are used to push the Centre’s agenda and disturb the non-BJP governments across the country.”

Citing the instance of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Brinda Karat said: “It is unthinkable what the governor in Kerala did by asking the chief minister to remove the finance minister, while the Tamil Nadu governor is sitting on important bills. We all know what has happened in Jharkhand too and how the governor was used to destabilise the government. It is time for all opposition parties to come together and demand a rethink on the election process of governor.”

Brinda Karat also opined that Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren should call a meeting of all non-BJP parties in the state at the earliest.

“I strongly feel that Hemant Sorenji should call a meeting of all non-BJP parties and chalk out a plan of action to spread among the masses BJP design to disturb a constitutionally elected government. On national level too I feel that all opposition parties should come together to protect the Constitution and federalism which is under threat under BJP,” Karat said.

Jharkhand gover nor Ramesh Bais, who is a former BJP MP from Raipur, during an interview with a TV news channel in Chhattisgarh claimed that “an atom bomb could explode any time in Jharkhand”, apparently indicating his pending decision in the matter and claimed to have sought the second opinion.

Following a petition by the BJP before the governor earlier this year, seeking Soren’s disqualification from the Assembly in an office-of-profit case, the Election Commission sent its decision to the Jharkhand governor on August 25.
