The BJP’s all-Muslim Kashmir leadership on Wednesday literally rose in revolt against the party’s Jammu-based state leadership, threatening to no longer accept a subordinate role in the party.

The leaders were reluctant to talk to the waiting media after the meeting. BJP leader Sofi Yousuf played down the reports of resentment and said it was an “organisational meeting”.

A revolt is brewing in the Jammu and Kashmir BJP as the party is trying hard to win over sections of Muslims to achieve its goal of installing a Hindu chief minister.

The Kashmir leaders on Wednesday snubbed the party’s Jammu and Kashmir chief, Ravinder Raina, who rushed from Jammu to Srinagar to calm tempers, refusing him an audience.

The leaders said a 12-member core committee was formed to hold direct meetings with the BJP’s national leadership.

“Rainaji was told that we won’t talk to him. We spoke to the central leadership over the phone. They are sending a delegation to meet us on August 13,” a leader told The Telegraph.

Later in the evening, the Kashmir leaders met Raina and put forth their demands in front of him.

The leader said they had lost so many men to militancy, yet were treated as "second-class members" in the party.
