BJP sweeps Uttar Pradesh mayor polls, wins all 17 seats bettering previous performance of 14 seats

Of 199 Nagar Palika Parishad seats, BJP has bagged 105, while Samajwadi Party has won 26 seats, Bahujan Samaj Party 16 and others 52

The BJP has won all 17 seats of mayors in Uttar Pradesh, bettering its previous performance of 14 out of 16 seats.

The BJP’s ally Apna Dal bagged the Swar (Rampur) and Chhanbe (Sonbhadra) Assembly seats to which bypolls had been held.

The ruling BJP is also ahead of its rivals in the other segments of the urban body elections, which were held on May 4 and 11.

Of the 199 Nagar Palika Parishad seats, the BJP has bagged 105, while the Samajwadi Party has won 26 seats, the Bahujan Samaj Party 16 and others 52. In the 2017 local body elections, the BJP had won 67 seats and the SP 45.

Of the 544 Nagar Panchayat seats, the BJP has won 205 and the SP 126. The BSP, the Congress and others have won 47, 40 and 126 seats, respectively. In the previous elections, the BJP had bagged 100 seats and the SP 83.

The mayoral seats theBJP has won are in Allahabad, Varanasi, Lucknow, Kanpur, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Mathura, Bareilly, Ferozabad, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Shahjahanpur, Aligarh, Agra, Jhansi, Ghaziabad and Meerut.

There were 16 seats in 2017 and Shahjahanpur was included this year as its population has crossed 5 lakh.
