A Rajya Sabha BJP MP on Friday alleged “Jungle Raj Part-II” in Bihar and listed several cases of crime in the state, leading to protests by the Opposition parties as Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar reminded members to abide by the rules of the House.

BJP leader Satish Chandra Dubey said the state was witnessing a worsening of law and order and compared the situation to that which prevailed in the 1990s when Lalu Prasad was chief minister.

“Bihar is now on the path of Jungle Raj Part-II. Crimes like murder, dacoity and rape are happening in broad daylight. In Bhagalpur, a woman was killed after being attacked in public,” Dubey said.

Rajya Sabha members from the Janata Dal United, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Congress, Aam Admi Party and the Left objected to the topic being raised in Parliament as it was purely a law-and-order issue of the state. Usually, lawand-order issues and cases that are sub judice are not raised in Parliament.

RJD leader Manoj Jha said raising the state issue in the Upper House was against convention. Dhankhar said aggrieved members could represent against the submission if it violated any rule of the House.

“There are rules available. Please follow decorum. It is not for me to make an appeal to you (to stop protesting). If I take a judgmental view, I will not reverse it,” Dhankhar said.
