A postgraduate medical student of Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital (ANMMCH) in Gaya in Bihar was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her hostel room on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Dr Vandana of Muzaffarpur. She was a first-year post-graduation student in the gynaecology department.
“We informed the police after coming to know about the incident in the morning. The police are probing it. We have informed the family of the deceased student about the sad occurrence,” medical college principal Arjun Choudhary told reporters.
Vandana did not come out of her room in the morning. Other inmates of the girls’ hostel knocked at the door when it was time to go on hospital duty. They pushed it when she did not answer after which the latch of the door subsided and fell on the floor.
The girls, who entered the room, found her hanging from the ceiling fan with a dupatta. One of her legs was resting on a chair placed beneath the fan, while the other was dangling in the air. No suicide note was found in the room.
“We are investigating the case from all angles. It could be a suicide or a murder. We are not ruling out anything. We will wait for the post-mortem report. The CCTV footage of the hostel is also being checked,” Magadh Medical police station in-charge and trainee deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Anil Kumar told reporters.
Vandana was married and had two kids.
