Little did Ravi Shankar Singh know that his troubles were about to take a favourable turn when he visited a roadside momo stall in Noida Sector 50 on June 10.
Ravi saw the stall owner shooing away a man wearing dirty clothes, sporting a big, unkempt beard and begging for momos. He stopped the owner and asked him to serve some momos to the hapless person while promising to pay for it.
While the hungry man was having the momos, Ravi started talking to him and he was surprised to know that the man is his behnoi (sister’s husband) Nishant Kumar, son of Sachchidanand Kunwar of Bihar's Bhagalpur.
Nishant had gone missing on January 31 this year while on a visit to his in-laws at Gangania village in Bhagalpur to attend a wedding.
Nishant’s father Sachchidanand later accused Nishant's father-in-law Navin Singh, Ravi, and other members of their family of kidnapping and killing his son. He also registered an FIR at Sultanganj police station in this connection.
“I went to Noida looking for a job and could not believe that I had chanced on my missing brother-in-law. My entire family was suffering because of his sudden disappearance and the criminal case against us. Nishant’s family used to extort money from us after his disappearance. My sister kept on grieving. My eldest uncle died of shock after the incident and the FIR,” Ravi told reporters.
“I quickly contacted the Noida police. Its officials arrived and I explained the situation to them. They helped, got in touch with the concerned families and the Bihar police, and made arrangements to send him back to Sultanganj safely. We arrived here on June 12,” Ravi added.
Ravi and other members of his family had to secure bail from the court in the disappearance case of Nishant.
Nishant revealed that he had suddenly wished to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and left for Delhi. After being unsuccessful in meeting him, he survived on the streets of Delhi and Noida for over four months.
Back in Sultanganj, the local police produced Nishant in Bhagalpur court on Tuesday. The court handed him over to his family pending further investigations.
“Nishant has been united with his family. He seems to be a bit mentally ill. We will now conduct further investigations into the reasons behind his disappearance and take orders from our senior officers about what to do regarding the FIR,” Sultanganj station house officer Priya Ranjan told The Telegraph.
The police added that they would take suitable action if any conspiracy was found behind Nishant’s disappearance.
However, all seems to be moving towards a happy ending after the rendezvous at the momo stall.
