Bhim Army chief and BJP bugbear Chandrashekhar Azad has said he would soon float a political party to meet the aspirations of the Dalits.
“It is high time I plunged into electoral politics because there is none who is honestly pursuing the ideology of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar,” Azad told reporters on Thursday.
“Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati has sold the ideology of the founding father of the Constitution and misused her powers after winning elections in the past after anchoring her campaign on Ambedkar,” Azad said.
If Azad enters electoral politics, it could lead to a split in the Dalit vote bank, affecting Mayawati. However, Azad rejected such a possibility and said: “People are looking for an alternative and we are going to give them a permanent, strong and honest option.”
He said the name of the new party would be announced on New Year and its membership would be based on Kanshi Ram’s campaign motto — “Ek note, ek vote”.
