The Bharat Jodo Abhiyan — a collective campaign of civil societies aimed at protecting the Constitution and secularism — and socialist activist Yogendra Yadav, on Friday, stressed on the importance of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, and decided to actively participate in it to defeat the designs of the communal forces and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
"The Bihar Assembly elections will be crucial for shaping the political landscape in the country in the coming years. Our efforts will be to make people's struggles and sufferings a central part of the electoral discourse. We are dedicated towards upholding the Constitutional values, communal harmony and brotherhood. And for that we have to defeat the BJP," Yadav said.
Speaking at the Bihar state conference of Bharat Jodo Abhiyan in Patna, Yadav expressed concerns over the role of the Election Commission of India and lack of fairness in the polls across the country.
"The BJP is doing many wrongs in various ways in the elections. We will have to make stronger efforts and win decisively in the polls with a big margin. It is our political dharma to remove the BJP democratically," Yadav added.
Speaking further, Yadav pointed out that the fight with the BJP- SS will take a long time because they have worked hard for 100 years to capture the space and minds of the people in every walk of life.
The socialist leader also emphasised that the Bharat Jodo Abhiyan included people who were willing to rise above personal interests to work for a greater cause.
The participants at the conference decided that the Bharat Jodo Abhiyan will actively participate in at least 100 seats in the Bihar polls next year.
"We will participate in the polls to uphold constitutional values, protect communal harmony and implement a model of all-round human development. We will coordinate with the Opposition parties and support the candidates fielded by the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA)," said Bharat Jodo Abhiyan coordinator Kamayani Swami.
The conference concluded with 125th birth anniversary celebrations of socialist revolutionary, freedom fighter, and social reformer Sane Guruji.
Sanjay Mangalgopal, who had come from Maharashtra to attend the conference, shared insights about Sane Guruji's contributions as a freedom fighter. Bharat Jodo Abhiyan's National Secretary Ajit Jha discussed the importance of carrying forward Sane Guruji's legacy on the occasion.
