Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) has barred any form of gathering by students on and around the campus in view of the G20 summit in the capital on September 9 and 10.
Several students said their studies would be severely affected by the order since the university had decided to close all its operations, including the library and reading room, on both days.
A notice issued by the chief proctor said that the heads of state of 30 countries would attend the G20 gathering in New Delhi. “Therefore, all the students are advised not to hold any academic or non-academic gathering inside or around the JMI campus till G-20 Summit concludes. Violators will be dealt strictly as per Rules & Regulations of JMI and serious actions will be taken against them,” the notice said.
A PhD student at JMI said students staying in rented accommodations in Delhi or as paying guests depended on the library and reading room for their studies.
The Telegraph sent an email to VC Najma Akhtar asking about the order. Her response is awaited.
