Eight persons have been named in an FIR registered in a case related to the collapse of an under-construction Metro pillar that killed a mother and her toddler son on Tuesday.
Karnataka home minister Araga Jnanendra on Wednesday said the FIR named Nagarjuna Construction Company, five of its officials and two officials of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited. “Strict action will be taken since it is utter negligence that caused the accident,” Jnanendra told reporters on Wednesday.
Tejaswini, 28, and her two-and-a-half-year-old son Vihan were crushed to death when the steel frame erected for a pillar for the overhead Metro line came crashing down along with its scaffolding on the scooter in which she, her husband and two children were riding along the Outer Ring Road in east Bangalore’s Nagavara.
Her husband Lohith Sulakhe, who was riding the two-wheeler, and their twin daughter Vismita escaped with injuries. Tejaswini, who hails from Davangere, used to work as a software engineer. Lohith, a native of Gadag, is a civil engineer.
The FIR lists the construction company as accused number one and names its officials Prabhakar, Chaitanya, Mathai, Vilas Singh and Lakshmipathi.
Deputy chief engineer of BMRCL, Venkatesh Shetty, and executive engineer of the Metro company, Mahesh Bendekari, are listed as accused number seven and eight.
The FIR registered at Govindapura Police Station booked the accused under IPC Sections 304A (causing the death of a person by doing a rash or negligent act not amounting to culpable homicide), 427 (whoever commits mischief and thereby causes damage or loss) and 34 (acts done by several people in furtherance of common intention).
