Sunita Kejriwal — the wife of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal — continued her webcast on Friday, a day after her jailed husband put up a show of defiance in court.

Sunita also launched a WhatsApp campaign to seek support for Kejriwal just days before the INDIA bloc's rally to protest his arrest. Her emotional appeal drew criticism from Union minister and BJP leader Hardeep Puri who compared her to Rabri Devi. The BJP, too, highlighted the disarray in the Opposition following the arrest of the AAP's national convener last week.

Sunita referred to unauthorised recordings of Kejriwal’s statement in court on Thursday, questioning the statements of approvers that have been widely shared on social media.

She said in her webcast: “Yesterday Arvind ji presented his side in the court, the entire country heard it. If you have not, then please listen to it once…. Arvind ji has challenged the most powerful, corrupt, and dictatorial forces of the country.”

Sharing a WhatsApp number to message the chief minister, she said: “If you have anything else to say, anything that comes to your mind, write it and send it on the WhatsApp number…. I will give each of your messages to him in jail. And to send him a message, you do not need to belong to the AAP; you may be from any party.”

Kejriwal remains the chief minister from jail despite calls from the BJP for his resignation. Delhi High Court has refused to intervene in the row.

Union housing and urban affairs minister Hardeep Puri sniped at Sunita after her repeated webcasts from the same setting as Kejriwal did. On Sunita’s webcast and the INDIA bloc’s unity, he said: “The madam you are naming is perhaps preparing to hold the post like Rabri Devi did in Bihar…. What are you talking about? They (Congress) have not released the names of candidates (in Delhi)?”
