The AAP on Tuesday confirmed that an aide of Arvind Kejriwal had misbehaved with a party MP in the Delhi chief minister’s residence on Monday.

Addressing a media conference a day after AAP Rajya Sabha member Swati Maliwal accused a member of Kejriwal’s personal staff of assaulting her, party leader Sanjay Singh said Kejriwal would take strict action.

“Yesterday morning Swati Maliwal had gone to Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to meet him. While she was waiting in the drawing room, Bibhav Kumar came there and misbehaved with her. She had reported the incident to the police by calling 112. We deeply condemn this incident. Arvind Kejriwal has taken cognisance of the entire incident and has called for strict action,” Singh told reporters.

“We are all standing with her. The chief minister has taken this issue seriously. I want to make it clear that the Aam Aadmi Party does not support such people (like Kumar),” Singh added.

The BJP had on Monday launched an attack on Kejriwal over the alleged assault on Maliwal.

Maliwal had called up the police to report the assault but has not filed a formal complaint so far. The National Commission for Women has asked the police for an action-taken report.

Neither Maliwal nor Kumar have spoken on the matter.

Kumar had been questioned in the excise policy case in connection with which the Enforcement Directorate had taken Kejriwal into custody. The AAP leader is now out on bail. The vigilance department had cancelled Kumar’s appointment as the chief minister’s private secretary last month, citing a pending FIR against him for obstructing a public servant in 2007, long before the AAP was formed.
