Delhi High Court on Wednesday declined Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea for immediate respite in his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate and subsequent detention.

However, the high court said it was inclined to examine if the case was "politically motivated".

In a webcast, the AAP leader's wife conveyed another emotional appeal, asserting that Kejriwal would make significant disclosures regarding the financial trajectory of the alleged liquor scandal. Other than Kejriwal, three of his party leaders and Bharat Rashtra Samithi MLC K. Kavitha are in jail in connection with the case.

During an event, Delhi's lieutenant governor V.K. Saxena hinted at the possibility of President's Rule, amid claims from AAP circles suggesting Kejriwal continues to govern from behind bars.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma said in her order: “This Court is further of the opinion that the present petition raises several issues of legality and validity regarding the arrest and remand of the petitioner. Additionally, it questions whether the arrest may be politically motivated and malafide."

In her second webcast after her husband’s arrest, Sunita Kejriwal said: “Only Rs 73,000 was found in the raid at our place. So where is the money from this so-called liquor scam? Arvindji has said that he will reveal this in front of the court on March 28, will tell the whole country the truth as to where the money of this so-called liquor scam is, and will also give proof of it.”

Kejriwal is slated to appear before a special court on Thursday as his ED remand ends. The CBI, responsible for the initial probe into the purported scandal, is anticipated to seek his custody.

Sunita added: “He has diabetes, sugar levels are not well…. He has said that my body is in jail, but my soul is with you all.”
