A preliminary probe has revealed that sub-inspector Karnail Singh, 55, shot dead his roommate, inspector Dasrath Singh, 56, with his service weapon and then shot himself, the police said. The campus where the incident took place is allotted to the Union home ministry.

Karnail Singh hailed from Jammu and Kashmir while Dasrath Singh was a resident of Haryana.

The incident is an aberration that seems to have been committed at the spur of the moment. An inquiry has been ordered to establish the facts of the matter.
