Angry tourists stormed into the premises of the 13th-century Sun Temple at Konark following a delay in ticket checking process.
As it was Sunday, there was a huge crowd of tourists outside the sun temple. All of them had to stand in a long queue to get off-line tickets in the scorching sun. Those who had obtained online-tickets also had to wait for hours to get inside the premises of the monument.
As there was chaos, people barged into the temple premises by scaling the gate. The limited staff deployed at the gate found it tough to handle the large crowd of tourists outside the premises.
“We have been waiting here for the last one hour to get entry into the premises. There was an inordinate delay in checking the tickets. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) deployed untrained professionals to check the tickets,” said a tourist.
Sources said the alleged sale of tickets by touts had aggravated the situation and led to a chaos-like situation.
“It’s not new. These things are occurring frequently. But authorities remained silent on the issue,” said a resident.
However, with the police intervention, things were brought under control.
