The AIUDF on Tuesday demanded a judicial probe into the vandalising of a mosque in Assam’s Baksa district on Sunday night.
On the second day of the budget session of the Assembly, the AIUDF asked the government to initiate the probe immediately and submit its report during the session.
Jania MLA Rafiqul Islam said, “We suspect that like in New Delhi, some elements in the state are trying to trigger communal violence. The government must immediately order a judicial probe and submit its report in this session. The AIUDF wanted to raise the question today but the Speaker asked us to bring the matter on Wednesday.”
He said “delayed” or “no” action by the government had led to the recent communal tension in Delhi, where 46 people died.
“Many leaders like Anurag Thakur and Kapil Mishra delivered inciting speeches during the Delhi polls but the government did not take any action. We don’t want a similar situation in Assam where the Bodoland Territorial Council elections are due in April,” he said, appealing for peace.
BTC chairman Hagrama Mohilary said “criminal elements” were trying to create unrest ahead of the polls.
The All Bodoland Minority Students’ Union also demanded justice.
