The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday attacked the Congress for not allying with the Jannayak Janta Party in Haryana and announced that it would support the Left Democratic Front in Kerala, where Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Wayanad.
The AAP also sacked its Kerala convener C.R. Neelakandan for backing the Congress-led United Democratic Front.
The AAP sent a signal a day after it deferred the filing of nominations for three of its Lok Sabha candidates from Delhi to give time to the Congress to tie up with it.
Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said on Saturday: “Even (JJP leader) Dushyant Chautala had approved the (seat-sharing) proposal. But the Congress sent a message to (AAP MP) Sanjay (Singh) last night saying it cannot part with any seat in Haryana.”
On Thursday, however, Chautala had asserted that the JJP would not join hands with the Congress.
When asked about an alliance with the Congress in Delhi, Sisodia said: “For the AAP, it is not about a seat here and a seat there. If there was an alliance across 18 seats in Delhi, Haryana and Chandigarh, then there would have been a tempo. If we share three seats in Delhi, the possibility of the Congress losing them is high.”
Addressing the media with CPM politburo member Nilotpal Basu later on Saturday, the AAP’s Kerala in-charge announced “blanket support” to all 20 LDF candidates. Basu also announced support for the AAP’s candidates in Delhi, and said the CPM would “campaign independently to communicate this decision to the people”.
