The AAP’s national leadership has warmed up to news reports of leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi pushing for an alliance despite declaring it will go alone in the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections.
AAP parliamentary party chairman Sanjay Singh told reporters: "I welcome this statement by Rahul Gandhi. Our priority is to defeat the BJP…. Our Haryana in-charge (MP) Sandeep Pathakji and our state convener Sushil Guptaji will talk about it and inform our leader (and Delhi chief minister) Arvind Kejriwalji who will take a decision.”
An AAP source said that the party has demanded 10 of the 90 seats in Haryana, and that MP Raghav Chadha is leading the negotiations with the Congress.
Gupta, however, told reporters that he had not been privy to any discussions on seat talks.
The AAP sources said they believe Rahul would prevail over the Congress leaders in Haryana who are opposed to a tie-up and that the AAP’s long-term growth can be hurt if it fails in Haryana this time as well.
