Mafia dons in Bihar are gearing up to grab a piece of the election pie by hook or by crook. Dreaded gangster Ashok Mahto, portrayed in the web series Khakee: The Bihar Chapter, is one of them.

The 62-year-old don, who walked free in December after 17 years in jail, married 46-year-old Kumari Anita on Tuesday night at a temple in Patna district.

His supporters came riding around 50 SUVs to attend the ceremony held amid much fanfare. The marriage also stood out because right now the marriages among Hindus are on hold for around a month due to lack of auspicious dates.

Mahto wants his wife to be the candidate from the Munger Lok Sabha constituency while he would shadow contest the polls. He cannot contest directly because of his conviction. Anita is a law graduate and used to work in a private firm in Delhi. The newlywed couple paid a visit to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad on Wednesday to take his blessings.

Sources close to Mahto claimed that he has been in touch with the RJD of late, and it was Lalu Prasad who suggested that he should get married and step into state politics with his wife as a prop.

“I got married due to people’s wishes. I felt their love and support after coming out of jail. I cannot contest in the polls but will field my wife from Munger,” Mahto said.
