The BJP on Sunday alleged that former Congress president Sonia Gandhi has links to an organisation financed by the George Soros Foundation and which has backed the idea of Kashmir as an independent nation.
This association shows the influence of foreign entities in India's internal affairs, the ruling party said in a series of posts on X.
The BJP claimed that Sonia Gandhi, as the co-president of the Forum of the Democratic Leaders in Asia Pacific (FDL-AP) Foundation, is linked to an organisation financed by the George Soros Foundation.
"Notably, the FDL-AP Foundation has expressed their views that treat Kashmir as a separate entity," the party said.
"This association between Sonia Gandhi and an organisation that has backed the idea of Kashmir as an independent nation expresses the influence of foreign entities on India's internal affairs and the political impact of such connections," it said.
The BJP further claimed that Sonia Gandhi's chairmanship of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation led to a partnership with the George Soros Foundation, "displaying the influence of foreign funding on Indian organisations".
The BJP's allegations come after it claimed on Thursday that the US "deep state" colluded with OCCRP and Rahul Gandhi to damage India's image.
The US on Saturday rejected BJP's allegations that organisations funded by its state department and elements in the American "deep state" were behind attempts to destabilise India through targeted attacks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and business tycoon Gautam Adani.
Union minister for parliamentary affairs Kiren Rijiju on Monday urged all political parties, including the Congress, to unite against anti-India forces, and raise their voice if they find their leaders working against the country's interest.
Addressing reporters, Rijiju said anybody found to be working with anti-India forces must be countered by all political parties.
"I wish to tell the leaders and workers of the Congress that even if their own party leaders are found to be working in tandem with anti-India forces, they should raise their voice against them," Rijiju said.
"It is an important issue that I want to raise without doing politics over it. The links between Sonia Gandhi and George Soros are serious. We do not want to see it by giving a political spin," he said.
Union minister Giriraj Singh has accused Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi of being "anti-nationals," alleging their association with George Soros. Singh claimed that Rahul Gandhi "speaks the language of George Soros in India, while Soros echoes Rahul Gandhi’s sentiments abroad." He further alleged, "They [Soros and Rahul Gandhi] fund those who are against India. The people of 'Tukde Tukde' gang are trying to break the country and Rahul Gandhi is leading them," he said.
BJP MP Nishikant Dubey also raised questions about alleged links between Congress, opposition parties, and international forces. “The country has the right to know about the relation between Congress, Opposition parties and international powers. As a Member of Parliament, it is my right to bring this issue to the House, but the Opposition is trying to suppress my voice and hide their international links. Figures like George Soros, who support divisive movements like Khalistan, have a nexus, and Congress is caught in it,” Dubey stated.
BJP national spokesperson C.R. Kesavan echoed these concerns, labeling Soros as a "sinister face" behind Congress. "Is George Soros the all powerful political puppet master who controls Rahul Gandhi and dictates every move of the Congress party? Why is Rahul Gandhi so petrified that he does not even utter a word about the allegations over the sordid nexus between the Congress party and George Soros? Is Soros dictating every move of the Congress? The country deserves answers,” Kesavan said, urging Rahul Gandhi to respond to the allegations of a "sordid nexus" between the Congress and Soros-backed organizations.
Leaders of some INDIA bloc parties on Monday protested inside Parliament complex and raised slogans to demand a joint parliamentary probe into the Adani issue.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge along with MPs of other opposition parties stood outside the Makar Dwar of Parliament and raised slogans of "Modi, Adani ek hain" and "we want justice".
The Trinamul Congress, Samajwadi Party and Aam Aadmi Party were not part of the protest. The BJP has been alleging that the INDIA bloc is disintegrating.
Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav said "all is well" in the opposition bloc. "It has become a habit of BJP to make false allegations. None of their allegations have turned out to be true till date."
MPs of the Left, DMK, Shiv Sena (UBT), RJD and NCP were among those who raised slogans and demanded a discussion and a probe into the Adani Group.
The protest took place in front of the steps of Parliament's Makar Dwar and not on the steps leading to it following an advisory by the Lok Sabha secretariat not to protest on the steps.
The protesting MPs lined up in front of the Samvidhan Sadan and raised slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Adani.
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut criticised the BJP government, asserting that the Adani controversy will remain a key issue as long as the BJP is in power. “The government is working for Adani, not the public. They only want to provide benefits to Adani. We are protesting on the Parliament premises and will raise the Adani issue in the House as well,” Raut stated.
RJD MP Manoj Jha said that the BJP, instead of looking at conspiracy theories, should start probing the allegations.
"When the government and its top leadership start to look into conspiracy theories, it means there is something that they want to hide. You are in the government, get things investigated," he said.
Congress MP Imran Masood echoed these sentiments, accusing the BJP of creating false narratives. “The BJP has a habit of making baseless claims. They lie and fabricate stories,” Masood said, responding to BJP allegations of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi’s links to a George Soros-funded organization.
