Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has made headlines for two consecutive days for carrying symbolic tote bags to Parliament.
On Monday, she carried one that had Palestine written on it. The Right-wing lost it, with even Sambit Patra of the BJP taking a jab at her with an us-and-them post on X.
On Tuesday, Priyanka carried another bag which had Bangladeshi Hindu or Ishaio ke saath khade ho (Stand with Bangladeshi Hindus and Christians) written on it.
“The government should discuss this with the Bangladesh government and support those who are in pain,” Priyanka, the Lok Sabha MP from Wayanad in Kerala, said in Parliament about minorities facing atrocities in the neighbouring country.
Uno reverse, as the kids say these days? The wisecracks on social media were divided, along predictable lines. But the posts all go to show one thing: Priyanka has bagged attention.
What about Manipur…
Using a pensive picture of the prime minister, one X user implied Priyanka had stolen Narendra Modi’s thunder.
“Priyanka Gandhi ne Bangladeshi Hindus ko support kar ke Sansad Mei Masterstroke laga diya jab ki main Manipur ko bhi Support nahi kar paaya. Ab main kya karu fir, job chor du?”
Translated, that means: Priyanka Gandhi pulled off a masterstroke in Parliament by supporting Bangladeshi Hindus when I could not even support Manipur. What do I do now, quit my job?
‘Priyanka Gandhi’s bag collection deserves a museum’
One X user wondered just how many bags Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had, and accused her of opportunism.
“Priyanka Gandhi’s bag collection deserves a museum! Yesterday, it was Palestine’s bag, today it’s a bag for Bangladeshi Hindus. Who knows, tomorrow she might bring a Pakistani bag and call it ‘peaceful diplomacy’! The only thing changing faster than her bags is her stance!”
Which one is real?
Another user compared a smiling Priyanka sporting the Palestine bag and a serious Priyanka carrying the Bangladesh bag, accusing her of hypocrisy.
“After BJP strong protests, Priyanka Gandhi enters in Parliament with handbag supporting Bangladeshi Hindus today. Yesterday, Priyanka Gandhi entered in Loksabha with Palestine handbag,” the user wrote.
‘Balancing act’ jibe
Another also accused Priyanka of hypocrisy, but from a different perspective.
“Priyanka Gandhi’s gesture of solidarity with Palestine has been diluted within 24 hours to appease the Hindutva brigade. It’s disheartening that showing empathy for a humanitarian crisis has to be ‘balanced.’”
A jab at BJP
A user took a dig at the ruling BJP while commenting on Priyanka Gandhi’s actions.
“Congress hasn’t stopped modiji with 56inches chest from carrying a ‘jhola’ with slogan of pro Bangladeshi Hindus.”
‘Brutal Move’ against critics
Some supported Priyanka, declaring that she had slayed.
“Bhakts were crying when she brought a Palestinian Handbag to Parliament Yesterday. Today, she brought a Bangladeshi Hindu support Bag, Bhakts have gone underground. This is Brutal from Priyanka.”
