Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) secured majority, winning 27 of the 40 seats and leading in six others, said Election Commission. Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga lost to ZPM's Lalthansanga in Aizawl East-1 seat by 2,101 votes. Zoramthanga called on Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati and submitted his resignation following the debacle of his party, the Mizo National Front, in the assembly elections, officials said.

Cyclone Michaung looming over west-central and coastal south Andhra Pradesh has intensified into a severe cyclonic storm, leading to heavy rainfall in several parts of the state, said an official. Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi said eastern coastal districts of the state have been badly affected by cyclone Michaung leading to a disruption in normal life. Thirty-three flights from Chennai were diverted to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) Bengaluru, as heavy rains continued to pound Tamil Nadu capital and nearby districts of the neighbouring state under the impact of a cyclonic storm. Several areas in Chennai saw power outage and internet disruption as torrential rains accompanied by squally winds coninued to lash the region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi asked the Opposition not to vent its frustration over the assembly polls defeat inside Parliament and move forward leaving behind 'negativity', saying that may change the people's perspective towards them. This 'temple of democracy' is a very important platform for people's aspirations and strengthening foundation of a developed India, Modi said and urged all members to come well prepared and hold thorough discussions on bills so that good suggestions come to the fore.

Two IAF pilots lost their lives when an Indian Air Force trainer aircraft crashed in Medak district of Telangana. The aircraft had taken off from the Air Force Academy (AFA) at Dundigal, as informed by a senior police official.

The Trinamul Congress alleged that the Centre has imposed an 'economic blockade' against the West Bengal government by blocking funds for schemes like MGNREGA and PM Awas Yojana as it demanded an immediate payment of the dues. Raising the issue in Lok Sabha during the Zero Hour, TMC's Sudip Bandyopadhyay said that an amount of around Rs 18,000 crore is pending due to the state.

The Privileges Committee of Rajya Sabha held AAP MP Raghav Chadha guilty of presenting misleading facts to the media and was allowed to attend the House proceedings after his suspension was ended through a motion. A motion to end his suspension was moved in the house by BJP member GVL Narasimha Rao, which was adopted by a voice vote, that said his suspension so far is 'sufficient punishment' for him.

A meeting of the newly-elected Congress MLAs in Telangana resolved to authorise AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge to appoint the leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP). The authorisation would be sent to Kharge and the MLAs decided to go by the decision of the party's top leadership, said Shivakumar, who is one of the AICC observers appointed to coordinate the CLP meetings.

Amidst the party's internal dynamics debate, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said there were no differences with party veterans while underscoring the need for a maximum age limit in politics, citing the decline in work efficiency and productivity with advancing age. His remarks come amid a debate between party veterans, considered loyalists of Mamata Banerjee and the younger generation, perceived as close to Abhishek.

Benchmark stock indices Sensex and Nifty soared more than 2 per cent to settle at record high levels, marking the fifth straight day of gains as the BJP's victory in assembly polls in three states boosted investor sentiment. The index touched an intra-day record peak of 68,918.22.

Train services between North and South Bengal remain grossly affected following the accident and engine derailment of 13145 Up Radhikapur Express near Ballarpur station near Farakka in Murshidabad district early Monday morning. About 15 passengers sustained injuries on account of the train’s midnight collision with the rear end of a sand-laden truck which came on the tracks through an unmanned level crossing causing one of the compartments of the long-distance train to catch fire and the goods vehicle getting mangled.
