British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Argentine President Alberto Fernández and IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva were among the top leaders who arrived in Delhi for the G20 summit. The G20 leaders will deliberate on pressing global issues at the grouping's annual summit on September 9 and 10.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold over 15 bilateral meetings with world leaders between September 8-10 as India hosts the G20 summit meeting. Official sources said he will hold bilateral meetings with the US president and the Bangladeshi prime minister at his official residence.

The ruling TMC wrested the Dhupguri assembly seat in West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district from the BJP in a by-election. TMC candidate Nirmal Chandra Roy, a college professor, won the seat by over 4,000 votes.

Two persons were killed and nearly 50 injured in two different firing incidents at Pallel in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district. This comes two days after thousands of protesters gathered at Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur district and tried to break through army barricades in an attempt to reach their deserted houses in Torbung.

Taking a dig at the government for not inviting Opposition leaders to the G20, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said it shows that the current leadership doesn't value the leaders of 60 per cent of India's population and the people should think about it. There is a 'full-scale assault' on the democratic institutions of India and there are concerns in the European Union (EU) quarters over this attempt to 'stifle' the country’s democratic structures, the Congress leader  said.

A Varanasi court granted additional time of eight weeks to the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to complete the scientific survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex and submit its report. The ASI is carrying out a scientific survey of the mosque premises, next to Kashi Vishwanath temple, to determine whether the 17th-century mosque was constructed over a pre-existing structure of a Hindu temple.

In view of the prevailing weather conditions, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) decided to add an exclusive reserve day for the Super 4 match between India and Pakistan, which is scheduled for September 10 in Colombo. It means that if the rain plays spoilsport during marquee clash on September 10, the match can be resumed from the point it was halted on the very next day.

Britain’s King Charles III and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak led tributes to the late Queen Elizabeth II, the first death anniversary of the country’s longest-serving monarch, and praised her dedication and service to the nation. In a statement recorded at Balmoral Castle, the Scottish castle where his mother breathed her last, Charles also thanked people for the 'love and support' shown to him and his wife Queen Camilla since then.

A 40-year-old man, who was arrested for allegedly killing flight attendant Rupal Ogrey, was found hanging in the Mumbai police's custody in the early hours of Friday, an official said. Vikram Athwal, was found hanging using a pair of pants as a noose inside the toilet of Andheri police station.
