Unbridled violence, rampant poll malpractices and panicked poll workers and voters caught in violence crossfire at multiple political hotspots of the state marred the panchayat elections in Bengal, killing 15 people and injuring scores of others even before the polls drew to a close on Saturday.

At least 24 people among those injured sustained bullet injuries from illegal weapons which were brandished with impunity during the day by politically-sheltered criminals even as the stench of gunpowder from firearms and crude bombs filled the air of rural Bengal.

The Manipur High Court has directed the state government to carry out physical trials to check the feasibility of providing internet service to mobile phones while ensuring security of “life and property of citizens".

The court, which has asked for a detailed report, will hear the case on July 25.

Congress leader Sachin Pilot made it clear on Saturday that he has buried the hatchet with Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on the advice of party president Mallikarjun Kharge, saying collective leadership was the "only way" forward going into the assembly polls.

In an exclusive interview with PTI just days after the crucial Rajasthan polls strategy meeting of the party, Pilot said Kharge advised him to "forgive and forget" and move forward. "It was as much an advice as a directive." "Ashok Gehlot ji is older than me, he has more experience. He has heavy responsibilities on his shoulders. When I was the Rajasthan Congress president, I tried to take everyone along. I think that today he is the Chief Minister (Gehlot), so he is trying to take everyone along.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday made an impromptu visit to Haryana's Sonipat district and interacted with people and spent time with farmers working agricultural lands.

He also took part in paddy sowing, a senior party leader from the state said. Gandhi reached Sonipat district's Madina village early on Saturday.

NCP chief Sharad Pawar has scoffed at estranged nephew Ajit Pawar’s suggestion that he should retire from active politics, saying he will continue working as party workers want him to keep going.

“Do you know at what age Morarji Desai became the prime minister? I don’t want to become the PM or a minister but only want to serve the people,” Pawar said when asked about Ajit’s remark that at 83 years, it was time for his uncle to retire.

Amid an uproar over the Sidhi urination incident in Madhya Pradesh, a video has now surfaced showing a man licking the soles of another person's feet after being forced to do so in a moving vehicle in Gwalior, following which two persons have been arrested, police said.

The video has gone viral on social media. The victim and the accused are residents of Dabra town in Gwalior district, an official said.

DRDO scientist Pradeep Kurulkar was attracted to the Pakistani Intelligence Operative, who used the alias 'Zara Dasgupta', and chatted with her about Indian missile systems among other classified defence projects, the chargesheet has said.

The Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) of the Maharashtra police filed the chargesheet against Kurulkar, who was the director of one of the labs of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Pune, in a court here last week.

"Adipurush" dialogue writer Manoj Muntashir Shukla extended his "unconditional apology" for hurting people's emotions.

The Prabhas-starrer mythological epic film, directed by Om Raut, was criticised heavily for its pedestrian language upon its release last month. The film's team, including Shukla, announced days later that they have decided to "revise some of the dialogues”.

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has formed a high-level committee, headed by Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto, to decide on the national cricket team's participation in the 2023 ODI World Cup in India.

The committee will explore and discuss all aspects of Pakistan and India relations, the government’s policy of keeping sports and policy apart, and the situation in India for the players, officials, fans, and media before submitting its recommendations to Sharif.
