The water level of the country's 150 main reservoirs has dropped to 23 per cent and is also 77 per cent less than last year's levels at this time, according to Central Water Commission (CWC) data. The 150 main reservoirs monitored by the CWC have a combined live storage capacity of 178.784 BCM, which is around 69.35 per cent of the total storage capacity created in the country.

At least 24 people died of suspected heatstroke in India's eastern states of Bihar and Odisha on May 30, and the heatwave in the region is expected to continue until June 1, authorities said. While temperatures in northwestern and central India are expected to fall in the coming days, the prevailing heatwave over east India is likely to continue for two days, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which declares a heatwave when the temperature is 4.5 C to 6.4 C higher than normal.

A New York City jury convicted former President Donald Trump of falsifying business records to cover up a hush-money payment to a porn actor. The Supreme Court ruled unanimously in March that states could not keep Trump off their ballots under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which disqualifies people who “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” after taking an oath to support the Constitution.

Passengers of a San Francisco-bound Air India flight faced a harrowing time on at the Delhi airport as some of them fainted due to non-functioning of the aircraft's air-conditioning system and also had to wait in the aerobridge before the flight was finally rescheduled. Aviation watchdog DGCA issued a show cause notice to Air India for inordinate delay of at least two international flights and failure to take due care of passengers.

A court in Bengaluru remanded the suspended JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna to police custody till June 6. The 33-year-old MP, who is the grandson of former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda, was arrested on his return from Munich in Germany.

A local court in Pune remanded the father and grandfather of the minor involved in the Porsche case in judicial custody for 14 days over their roles in the alleged kidnapping and wrongful confinement of their driver. According to the police, the driver was with the juvenile in the Porsche when the luxury car hit a two-wheeler killing two software engineers in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area on May 19.

Assam's flood situation remained grim with over two lakh people affected in nine districts, following incessant rainfall in the aftermath of cyclone Remal, officials said. Altogether, six people died in the flood, rain and storms in the state since May 28, they said.

The death toll in the firecracker explosion in Odisha's Puri mounted to four after another person succumbed to injuries, a senior official said. Another injured person has died in hospital, while 26 others were undergoing treatment, a statement issued by the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) said.

Adani group saw a 55 per cent profit surge in the fiscal year ended March 2024 as the apples-to-airport conglomerate is back on an expansion spree and eyeing a USD 90 billion capex over the next decade. This helped net profit surge to Rs 30,767 crore for the group's listed companies in the fiscal from Rs 19,833 crore a year ago, according to exchange data and analysts.
