Union Cabinet approved a Rs 13,000 crore PM Vishwakarma scheme that will benefit about 30 lakh traditional artisans and craftsmen, including weavers, goldsmiths, blacksmiths, laundry workers, boat makers, locksmiths, potters, sculptors, cobblers, and barbers. The loans will be provided at a concessional interest rate of 5 per cent.

The Calcutta Police arrested six more people in connection with its probe into the death of a first-year student of Jadavpur University. With these arrests, the city police apprehended a total of nine people in the case. Dean of Students and Registrar of JU were asked to meet Joint CP Crime at the Lalbazar.

The death toll in the rain fury in Himachal Pradesh rose to 57 with the body of a woman being pulled out of the debris of a collapsed Shiv temple near Summer Hill in Shimla. Ten bodies are still feared buried in the debris of the temple that collapsed on August 14.

With the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library officially renamed as the Prime Ministers' Museum and Library Society, the Congress alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has had a single point agenda of "denying", "distorting", "defaming" and "destroying" the Nehruvian legacy. In mid-June, in a special meeting of the NMML Society, it was resolved to change its name to PMML Society.

India's ambitious Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft successfully underwent a fifth and final lunar-bound orbit manoeuvre, bringing it even closer to the surface of the Moon. With this, the spacecraft has completed all of its Moon-bound manouvres, and it will now prepare for separation of the lander module, comprising the lander and rover, from the propulsion module.

The Supreme Court halted for 10 days the demolition drive being carried out by railway authorities to clear alleged illegal constructions near the Krishna Janmabhoomi in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura. Earlier on August 14, the top court granted those affected by the railways' demolition drive to move the Allahabad High Court to challenge the move.

Cow vigilante Bittu Bajrangi was remanded in police custody for a day by a Nuh court in connection with communal clashes that erupted in the district on July 31, and police said his associates will also be arrested soon. Bajrangi alias Raj Kumar was arrested on August 15 from Faridabad after a fresh FIR was registered against him at Nuh's Sadar police station based on a complaint.

Several churches were vandalised in Pakistan's Punjab province over blasphemy allegations. The Salvation Army Church, United Presbyterian Church, Allied Foundation Church and Shehroonwala Church situated in the Isa Nagri area in the Jaranwala district of Faisalabad were ransacked.

Defender Mandeep Mor and midfielder Navjot Kaur will lead the Indian men and women hockey teams respectively, in the upcoming Asian Hockey 5s World Cup Qualifier, to be held in Oman. While the men's tournament will take place from August 29 to September 2, the women's event will be played from August 25 to 28.
