A portion of a tunnel under construction between Silkyara and Dandalgaon on the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri national highway here collapsed on Sunday morning, trapping 36 workers inside, officials said. The collapsed portion is located about 200 metres from the entrance of the tunnel, the SP said.

The death toll from the blasts that rocked a Christian religious gathering near here two weeks ago has risen to five, the Kerala government said. Presently, 17 people who were injured in the blasts are undergoing treatment in various hospitals here, the bulletin by a medical board constituted to treat those who were wounded in the incident said.

Two passengers died following a sudden jolt after a Delhi-bound train stopped as an overhead electric wire snapped in Jharkhand's Koderma district, East Central Railway officials said. The train was running at a speed of 130 kmph when the accident occurred.

A parliamentary committee has noted that the seven years' imprisonment prescribed in the proposed new criminal law for causing death by negligence is 'high' and it should be reduced to five years. According to the Section 104 (1) of the BNS, whoever causes the death of any person by any rash or negligent act, not amounting to culpable homicide, shall be punished with imprisonment of either description for a term that may extend up to seven years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

Constitutional Court should avoid fixing a time-bound schedule for disposal of any case before any court unless the situation is extraordinary, the Supreme Court said while refusing to entertain a plea seeking a direction for disposal of a criminal matter within a fixed time. The top court was hearing a plea filed by Shaikh Uzma Feroz Hussain seeking a direction to the Maharashtra High Court to decide his bail plea in a time-bound manner.

The police sub-inspector accused of raping a minor girl in Rajasthan's Dausa district has been terminated from service and arrested after a case was registered against him under relevant sections, including the POCSO Act and the SC/ST Act, officials said. The police officer was detained and suspended on November 10.
