The tussle between the ruling DMK and the Raj Bhavan hit a new low on Monday as Governor R N Ravi skipped portions of the government-prepared customary address in the Assembly and the Chief Minister piloted a resolution to exclude from the House records whatever he spoke outside the State drafted speech.

The Governor later walked out of the Assembly after M.K. Stalin moved the resolution. 

Following Ravi's address, Stalin expressed regret on the Governor avoiding certain portions from the prepared address.

The Bombay High Court on Monday granted bail to former ICICI Bank CEO and MD Chanda Kochhar and her husband Deepak Kochhar in a loan fraud case, saying their arrest was not in accordance with the provisions of law.

A division bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and P K Chavan held that the arrest of Kochhars was in violation of Section 41A of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), which mandates sending notice for appearance before the police officer concerned.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday described Pravasi Bhartiyas as the "brand ambassadors" of India on foreign soil and said they have a significant place in the journey of the country as it enters the 'Amrit kaal' of the next 25 years.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 17th edition of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention in Madhya Pradesh's Indore city.

Addressing a G20 meeting on financial inclusion, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said her government works to usher in development with a humane face.

Banerjee told delegates that her government’s welfare programmes, including those on women empowerment, have been designed to push for digital and financial inclusion of the poorest sections of society.

A court here on Monday sent six accused in the case involving the death of a 20-year-old woman, who had got trapped in the underside of a car and killed, to 14 days' judicial custody.

"14 days judicial custody granted," Metropolitan Magistrate Sanya Dalal said. The prosecution said it was found during their custodial interrogation that the accused were aware of the victim's body being dragged under the wheels.

Jasprit Bumrah's return to action has now been delayed further after failing to recover fully from his lower back stress fracture as the senior India pacer was on Monday ruled out of the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Bumrah was named in the squad for the three-match series against Sri Lanka, starting Tuesday, but BCCI's support staff and medical team have collectively decided that his "return to play" will be delayed, keeping the all-important Border Gavaskar Trophy in mind.

A Nepal-bound bus rammed into a truck on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway in the midst of a dense fog cover over Unnao in Uttar Pradesh on Monday, leaving the driver and three Nepalese citizens dead, officials said.

Six other passengers, four of them also from Nepal, got injured in the incident and have been hospitalised, they said.

Canada-based Aarshdeep Singh Gill, who has been involved in targeted killings, terror financing and extortion in Punjab, was on Monday designated as a terrorist by the government.

The Union Home Ministry said in a notification that Gill alias Arsh Dala, who was born in Ludhiana but is currently based in Canada, is involved in the cross-border smuggling of drugs and weapons on a large scale.
