Several students were injured after security forces fired several rounds of tear gas shells to disperse a stone-pelting mob in Imphal's Moirangkhom, about 200 metres from the CM's secretariat. A team of CBI officials, led by the agency's Special Director Ajay Bhatnagar, will reach Imphal in a special flight to investigate the 'kidnapping and killing' of two students who went missing in the northeastern state on July 6. The Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act or AFSPA was extended by another six months in Manipur barring 19 police stations falling under the Imphal valley and an area that shares its boundary with neighbouring Assam.

In the wake of Canada's allegations about India's 'potential' involvement in the killing of a Khalistani separatist on its soil, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that New Delhi conveyed to Ottawa that it is not the government of India's policy and it is open to looking at 'specific' and 'relevant' information in the case. Jaishankar asserted that one must also understand the context because the 'picture is not complete' without the context of it.

The 13 arrested in connection with the death of the Jadavpur University fresher allegedly due to ragging and sexual molestation at the hostel will not be allowed to either enter its premises or the campus, according to a decision by the varsity's executive council. The arrested include four students of the prestigious institute and the prohibition on them will hold good even if they are on bail or parole, a university official said.

The National Investigation Agency detained several suspects during a massive multi-state crackdown on a nexus of terrorists, gangsters and drug-smugglers, an official said. The respective state police force provided necessary support to the daylong raids carried out at 53 locations in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and the union territories of Delhi and Chandigarh, a spokesperson of the federal agency said.

Edtech major BYJU's may lay off up to 3,500 employees during the current fiscal as it looks to consolidate teams and enhance regional focus, sources privy to the development said. The sources said this will be the last lay off at BYJU's payroll and the entire exercise will be over by October end.

The triumvirate of Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh and Rhythm Sangwan fired in tandem to shoot the gold medal in the women's 25m pistol team event as Indian shooters dominated proceedings at the Asian Games. Indian markswoman Sift Kaur Samra produced some excellent shooting to claim the gold medal in the individual 50m rifle 3 position event while Ashi Chouksey settled for the bronze at the Asian Games. Indian shooters Sift Kaur Samra, Manini Kaushik and Ashi Chouksey of women's 50m rifle 3 positions team won silver medal. 

Indian shooter Anant Jeet Singh Naruka won silver medal in the men's skeet individual event. Shooters Anant Jeet Singh Naruka, Angad Vir Singh Bajwa and Gurjoat Siingh Khangura won bronze medal in the men's skeet team event.

A new bench of the Supreme Court will hear on October 3 former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu's petition for quashing the FIR against him in the alleged Rs 371 crore scam in the state's Skill Development Corporation, after Justice SVN Bhatti recused himself from hearing it. The court also made it clear that it cannot restrain the trial judge from dealing with the prosecution's plea seeking further police custody of the TDP leader.
