State Bank of India told the Supreme Court it has provided all details of the electoral bonds in its possession to the Election Commission. "Similarly, KYC details of purchasers are also not being made public for security reasons, apart from the fact that such information is not fed/collated in the system. However, they are not necessary for identifying the political parties," the affidavit filed by bank chairperson Dinesh Kumar Khara said.

Supreme Court stayed the Centre's notification on setting up a fact-checking unit under the Press Information Bureau (PIB) to identify fake news about the Union government. A bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud set aside the March 11 order of the Bombay High Court which had refused to grant interim stay on setting up the FCU under the amended IT Rules to identify fake and false content on social media about the Union government.

Election Commission directed the Centre to immediately stop delivering bulk WhatsApp messages to people under the "Viksit Bharat Sampark" initiative to highlight the government's achievements. "The move is a part of a series of decisions taken by the Commission to ensure a level-playing field," the Commission said.

Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of crippling the Congress financially, former party president Sonia Gandhidemanded that the party be given access to its bank accounts to ensure a level playing field in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls. "Defreeze our accounts to ensure a level playing field in polls," Congress president Kharge added.

Delhi High Court refused to grant Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal any protection from coercive action in an excise policy-linked money laundering case. "We have heard both sides and we are not inclined at this stage (to grant protection). The respondent is at liberty to file reply," the bench said.

Calcutta High Court directed the Centre to file an affidavit on a PIL alleging deactivation of Aadhaar cards of people by the authorities concerned. A division bench headed by Chief Justice T S Sivagnanam directed the Centre to file the affidavit within three weeks stating its position on the allegation made in the PIL, which claimed that Aadhaar cards of people were being deactivated in an arbitrary manner using provisions under Section 28A of the Aadhaar Act.

Ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, search operations by income tax sleuths are continuing for the second day at the premises of Trinamul Congress leader Swarup Biswas who is the brother of a West Bengal minister, an official said. The raids are being carried out for alleged "tax evasion and possession of disproportionate assets by the TMC leader", he said.

The brother of the main accused in the chilling murder of a neighbour's two children in Budaun surrendered at a police post in Bareilly, police said. The postmortem report of the slain children has revealed that the assailant stabbed the elder brother 13 times and his sibling 11 times, officials said, adding injury marks have been found on the neck, chest and other parts of bodies of the two children.

At least two people were killed and 22 others injured when a suicide bomber rammed a vehicle laden with explosives against a convoy of the security forces in Pakistan's restive northwest region, police said. The security forces and the police have rushed to the site and blocked the main Tank-Dera Ismail Khan road for all kinds of traffic.
