Prime Minister Narendra Modi tendered his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu, who accepted it and asked him to continue till the new government assumes office, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said. President Droupadi Murmu dissolved the 17th Lok Sabha on the advice of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Cabinet, according to the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said he would request BJP top leadership to relieve him from the government duties so that he could focus on state assembly polls, a statement coming a day after the BJP suffered a drubbing in Lok Sabha polls in the state. "To focus on the next assembly elections and fix the shortcomings, I request the top brass of my party to relieve me of my government duties. I will meet my seniors and communicate my expectations to them," Fadnavis said while addressing a press conference at the BJP headquarters in Mumbai.

Hinting at 'conspiracy and backbiting' behind his electoral loss, BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Wednesday said it needs to be examined why the party could not maintain its momentum of growth in West Bengal after the 2021 assembly elections. Ghosh, who won from the Medinipur seat in 2019, lost to TMC's Kirti Azad in Bardhaman-Durgapur by 1.37 lakh votes this time.

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) Bombay and Delhi are among the top 150 universities in the world, while the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) retained the top rank globally for the 13th time, according to the QS World University Ranking, 2025. According to the coveted ranking published by the London-based higher education analyst, Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Delhi University stood out for the employability of its graduates and has been ranked 44th globally in the category of "employment outcomes".

Four members of a trekking team died and 18 others got stranded on a trek to Sahastratal alpine lake, situated at an altitude of 4,100-4,400 metres in the upper Himalayan region, an official said. The team was constituted by 18 trekkers from Karnataka and one from Maharashtra, besides three local guides, Uttarkashi District Magistrate Meharban Singh Bisht said.

Panic gripped an Air Canada Toronto-bound flight after the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport here received an email claiming a bomb had been planted on the airplane, officials said. The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) office received an email at 10.50 pm on June 4 stating that a bomb had been planted in the Delhi-Toronto Air Canada flight, the officials said.
