Stating that the government machinery has completely failed to control the Manipur ethnic conflict, which is lingering for nearly three months, opposition bloc INDIA on Sunday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his "silence", showing "brazen indifference" to the ongoing situation in the northeastern state.

In a memorandum submitted to Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey, the 21 opposition MPs who signed the document demanded urgent rehabilitation and resettlement of the affected people to bring peace and harmony to the state.

ISRO on Sunday successfully launched its proven PSLV rocket carrying seven Singaporean satellites from Satish Dhawan Space Centre here and placed them into intended orbits.

Around 23 minutes after lift-off, the primary satellite got separated and it was followed by six other co-passenger satellites, which were deployed into the intended orbits sequentially, ISRO said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced that a 'Meri Mati Mera Desh' campaign will be launched in the run up to Independence Day to honour the martyred bravehearts of the country.

In his monthly Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast, Modi said that with 'Amrit Mohatsav' resonating everywhere and August 15 near, a big campaign is being launched in the country -- 'Meri Mati Mera Desh'.

An army soldier on leave has gone missing from his native Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir leading to security forces launching a massive search and rescue operation, officials said on Sunday.

The father of the soldier, posted in the Ladakh region, said he was supposed to join work on Sunday. Javaid Ahmad Wani, a resident of Achathal area of Kulgam district, went missing on Saturday evening. His car was found at Paranhall, they said.

The health condition of former West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya improved slightly though he remained critical on Sunday morning, doctors treating him at a city-based hospital, said.

The oxygen saturation of the 79-year-old Bhattacharya, who was rushed to the private hospital from his Palm Avenue residence via a green corridor on Saturday afternoon, improved slightly, but he continued to be on invasive ventilation, a senior doctor said.

Students have raised the issue of food discrimination at the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IIT-B) after “vegetarians only” posters were put up on the walls of a canteen in one of the hostels here, a student representative said on Sunday.

Posters stating “vegetarians only are allowed to sit here” were put up on the walls of the canteen of hostel 12 at the prestigious institution last week, and a photograph of the same went viral on social media.

The Madhya Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has constituted a 26-member election management committee for the state assembly polls due later this year.

Five invited members are also included in the committee, the announcement of which was made on Saturday night. The committee, headed by its convener and Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar, includes Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and BJP state president VD Sharma, a party spokesperson said.

Police have arrested gangster-politician Atiq Ahmad's lawyer Vijay Mishra, who was wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case, officials said on Sunday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Deepak Bhukar said Mishra was arrested by officers from the Dhoomanganj police station on Sunday.

Non-fiction series "The Kashmir Files Unreported", directed by Vivek Agnihotri, will start streaming on ZEE5 from August 11.

ZEE5 announced the premiere date of the show on its official Twitter handle on Saturday. "The Kashmir Files Unreported" consists of the research, archival footage and interviews Agnihotri did for his 2022 movie "The Kashmir Files", the director had previously said.
