Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the seriousness of the security breach in Parliament cannot be underestimated, and called for no squabbling over the issue amid Opposition's protests over it in Parliament. Two persons jumped from visitors' gallery into the Lok Sabha chamber on December 13, with Opposition parties, demanding a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah.

Referring to the recent allegations of plots to murder pro-Khalistan elements in the United States and Canada, external affairs minister S Jaishankar on Sunday said the two issues weren't the same. "If any country, not just Canada, if any country has a concern and gives us some input or some basis for that concern, we are always open to look at it. This is what countries do," he said.

Israel appeared to confirm that new negotiations were under way to recover hostages held by Hamas, after a source said Israel's intelligence chief met the prime minister of Qatar, a country mediating in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Israel's offensive in Gaza helped clinch a partial hostage-release deal in November, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, vowing to maintain intense military pressure on Hamas.

Nine people were killed and three others seriously injured in a blast at an explosives manufacturing factory in Maharashtra's Nagpur district, police said. Angry locals and relatives of workers blocked a highway near the unit demanded they be allowed to enter the premises to see the bodies.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin launched the distribution of Rs 6,000 cash assistance to families affected by cyclone Michaung induced rains and flood. Stalin gave away the cash dole to women heads of families at Velachery, one of the badly affected areas due to heavy inundation, marking the commencement of disbursal of flood relief to people in Chennai and nearby areas.

A sub-inspector of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was killed and a constable injured in an encounter between security personnel and Naxalites in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, police said. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai chaired a high-level meeting of officials concerned and directed to expedite the anti-Naxal operation in the state, a statement issued by the state public relations department said.

Indian team's premier wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan will not be a part of the upcoming two-Test series against South Africa as he has flown back home due to personal reasons. "Ishan Kishan has requested the BCCI to be released from the upcoming Test series against South Africa citing personal reasons. The wicket-keeper has subsequently been withdrawn from the Test squad. The men's selection committee has named KS Bharat as a replacement," BCCI said in a statement.

Police used a water cannon to disperse Youth Congress workers who tried to force their way through barricades while marching towards Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's residence here to protest alleged deterioration of law and order. Before the protest march, the Youth Congress staged a dharna and raised slogans against the AAP government.
