Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday pitched for adopting a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), hitting out against those supporting the practice of Triple Talaq and criticising the Opposition for pursuing the politics of appeasement.

During his visit to poll-bound Madhya Pradesh, Modi addressed BJP workers selected from across the country for having made effective contributions in empowering their booths under the party's 'Mera Booth Sabse Majboot' campaign, reports PTI.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s chopper made an emergency landing at the Sevoke airbase on Tuesday afternoon after the flight met with inclement weather on its way to Bagdogra airport.

Banerjee reportedly sustained injuries on her hip and leg at the time of disembarking from the chopper under precarious conditions at the Sevoke airbase in Siliguri but the seriousness of her injuries couldn’t be ascertained.

Five months after a bombshell short seller report lopped off billions of dollars in market value of his empire, Gautam Adani has reiterated that his ports-to-energy conglomerate remains confident in its governance and disclosure standards.

In the annual report of group's flagship firm Adani Enterprises Ltd, the Adani Group chairman said a Supreme Court -appointed panel of experts found no regulatory failure.

India's monsoon season rains were set to cover the whole country by the weekend, according to meteorological department officials, allowing farmers in northern states to begin planting of summer-sown crops a week earlier than normal.

The monsoon, the lifeblood of India's $3 trillion economy, delivers nearly 70% of the rain needed to water its farms and recharge reservoirs and aquifers. It also brings relief from the worst of the summer.

A Delhi court Tuesday posted for July 1 the decision on whether to take cognisance of the charge sheet filed against BJP MP and outgoing WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in a case of alleged sexual harassment of women wrestlers.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal said it was a “lengthy chargesheet” and adjourned the matter. “Fresh chargesheet filed. Let it be checked. Since it's a lengthy chargesheet, will keep it for consideration for a couple of days,” the judge said.

The White House has condemned as "totally unacceptable" the harassment of a US journalist on social media for asking Prime Minister Narendra Modi a question at his joint press conference here with President Joe Biden.

Last week, The Wall Street Journal reporter Sabrina Siddiqui asked Prime Minister Modi about the rights of minorities in India and what steps his government was willing to take to improve them and also uphold free speech.

Women activists were deliberately blocking routes and interfering in operations by security forces in violence-hit Manipur, the Army said, urging people to help it in restoring peace in the Northeastern state.

Terming such "unwarranted interference" detrimental to the timely response by security forces, the Army's Spears Corps shared a video on Twitter late on Monday of some such incidents.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and flagged off five Vande Bharat trains connecting important cities in different parts of the country.

Modi reached Rani Kamalapati railway station in the state capital Bhopal from where he flagged off the five trains - two physically and three in virtual mode. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Jyotiraditya Scindia, among others, were present on the occasion.

The NHRC has sent notices to the chairman of the Railway Board, the Delhi government and the city police chief after a woman died of electrocution on the New Delhi Railway Station complex, officials said on Tuesday.

The 34-year-old schoolteacher came in contact with a live wire when she lost her balance and grabbed an electric pole to break her fall amid rain early on Sunday morning.

The world's largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad will play host to the big-ticket ODI World Cup group match between India and Pakistan on October 15 besides staging the grand finale on November 19, the ICC announced on Tuesday.

The tournament will begin on October 5 with a clash between defending champions England and runners-up New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, which is the largest in the world with a seating capacity of 1,32,000 spectators -- 32,000 more than the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
