Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled multiple metro projects across the country, including India's first underwater metro line in Calcutta, reports PTI. After the inauguration programme, Modi took a metro ride from Esplanade to Howrah Maidan along with school children.

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced that her government will hike the remunerations of ASHA and Anganwadi workers ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. They used to get Rs 8,250 per month, and with this hike, it will be Rs 9,000.

Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that he will send a recommendation to the Centre for implementing the National Register for Citizens (NRC) in the state as his government cannot do it alone. Singh’s statement came a few days after the assembly passed a resolution urging the central government to implement the NRC in the state “in the interest of the state in particular and of the nation in general".

Maldives will not renew an agreement with India to conduct hydrographic surveys and plans to acquire the facilities and machines required to do the exercise by itself, President Mohamed Muizzu has announced. The development comes days after China signed a defence cooperation agreement with the Maldives to provide free military assistance to foster "stronger" bilateral ties.

National Investigation Agency (NIA) announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for information about the suspected bomber in the March 1 Rameshwaram Cafe blast case in Bengaluru.  The agency shared phone numbers and emails where people can send information about the unidentified person, who has emerged as a prime suspect.

Reserve Bank has directed banks to provide their eligible customers with an option to choose from multiple card networks at the time of issuing credit or debit cards, a move which will benefit card users. For the existing cardholders, this option may be provided at the time of the next renewal, it said.

Observing that the "public trust doctrine" has been thrown into the waste bin, the Supreme Court pulled up former Uttarakhand minister Harak Singh Rawat and a former divisional forest officer for allowing illegal construction and felling of trees in the Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR). The apex court directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is already probing the case, to file its status report in the matter within three months.

Nikki Haley will suspend her presidential campaign after being soundly defeated across the country on Super Tuesday, according to people familiar with her decision, leaving Donald Trump as the last remaining major candidate for the 2024 Republican nomination. Haley, a former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador, was Trump's first significant rival when she jumped into the race in February 2023.

ChatGPT maker OpenAI refuted Elon Musk's claims that the startup abandoned its original mission to develop artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity and not for profit. OpenAI said Musk wanted the company to merge with electric vehicle maker Tesla, and he forwarded an email that said the startup should "attach to Tesla as its cash cow".
